Let’s use our words!
–
I used to say this to my campers at Camp Dogwood summer camp. We wanted them to ask for what they wanted or needed, not hint or make us guess.
–
Lately, I have found myself saying this to myself, friends, and strangers. It’s like we have forgotten the power of the question mark.
–
The other day my Luca, who is 6, said “Miss Momique, will you sit with me?”. Of course, the answer was YES. He didn’t say “I wish someone would sit with me”.
–
He asked for what he wanted. He didn’t worry about what I was doing, he let me handle that part of the equation. I feel we all could be so much happier and communicate better if we would use our words.
–
Using our words can be hard when we start trying to guess how the other person could respond. We have no control over how they respond. Let’s do our part and give them something to clearly respond to.
–
It is okay to channel your inner 6-year-old and ask for what you want or state how you are feeling. This doesn’t mean we will get what we want every time. It does mean our chances are going to be higher.

These little kids are out here winning and living their best lives. Let’s do the same.
